Abstract
Femoral neck fractures remain a challenging problem for the orthopaedic surgeon.
Many explanations have been offered the high percentage of the avascular necrosis and non-union following treatment of this fracture.
Compression hip nailing was designed to incorporate the desired shaft fixation in an appliance which would prevent distraction of the fracture fragments and at the same time reduce the possibility of the nail¢¥s penetration the joint. 13 cases of femoral neck fractures treated by compression hip nailing in the department of orthopaedic surgery at National Medical center were analyzed, and the results were as follow.
1. The average of patient was forty-five years, and man was predominant.
2. Average 6.5 days was elapsed from initial injury to operation, and good result were obtained in the cases of operation within 3 days.
3. The end results were good when the fragment was reducted within 165180 of Garden¢¥s
angle in A-P film and below 20 angle of Ant, and Post.angle in Lat. film.
C Bony union was obtained within 4.8 months, and avascular necrosis was established in
28.5 months.
5. Developed 2 avascular necrosis and 1 non union of 13 cases.
